Stella Maris Resort Club - Center For Prolific Bone Fishing

LONG ISLAND, Bahamas — There's still a place where deep sea, reef and bone fishing is prolific. Located in the Southern Bahamas on the beautiful and unspoiled Long Island, Stella Maris Resort Club offers the perfect tropical getaway for adventurers seeking an ocean paradise as well as a place in the sand to soak up the sun. The special resort offers multifaceted features appealing to all types of fishing enthusiasts including poling the flats or trolling deep water. In addition the resort is in the center of enticing snorkeling sites, world class scuba diving, miles of unspoiled natural beauty, and a choice of eight breathtaking beaches.

Long Island, which is divided by the Tropic of Cancer, offers fishing years round due to the North Equatorial Current that originates in the Canary Islands carrying huge schools of Blue Marlin, White Marlin, Sailfish, Rainbow Runners, Yellow Fin Tuna, Black Fin Tuna, Dolphin and Wahoo. The best time to catch Yellow Fin Tuna is April and May; Black Fin Tuna from July through December; Wahoo from September through November and Rainbow Runners from March through May.

Stella Maris resort has a secret fishing weapon in the guise of James "Docky" Smith, a Long Island native whose passion and expertise is Bone Fishing. Docky operates Bonafide Bonefishing and he has placed the resort in the fly fishing spotlight. Anglers can fish with Docky or one of the island's other experienced guides or explore wading flats in the resort's bay, just a few steps away. Bonafide offers bone fishing at $450 for 1-2 anglers with a guide; a small boat (19') for reef fishing starts from $550. A full-day guided reef fishing excursion or a deep sea trip starts from $950 for up to eight people.

Stella Maris air-conditioned accommodations, within a stone's throw of the azure Atlantic, consist of hotel rooms, cottages, villas, and bungalows at rates starting from $170 to $630. A menu of international dishes that blend Bahamian, American, and Continental cuisine is prepared by the chef. A clubhouse includes the restaurant, bar/lounge, game room, boutique and patios.
