Introducing The Bahamas Youth to the Wonders of General Aviation

Twenty Two Students From Across Long Island discover the wonders of General Aviation in Experimental Aviation Association’s Young Eagles Program. Twenty two kids from Long Island, Bahamas, are going to have quite a story to share during “show n tell” when they return to school after the summer break.  These kids ranging in ages between 9 and 17 took part in the Young Eagles Program that was launched in Long Island, Bahamas at the Stella Maris Airport, Friday, June 29th. The kids were all given airplane rides in five planes that took part in the EAA Young Eagles program. Back Country Bahamas

Every October for the past 14 years, Scott and I travel to a quiet island in the southern Bahamas for a little sun and relaxation. Scott is an avid fly fisherman, I am a certified scuba diver, and we both enjoy a short period of sun and relaxation in between our busy summer work season and the long, cold, snowy winter season. Our primary recreational pursuits in Juneau involve getting out in the backcountry and away from town, so it should be no surprise that we seek the same experience on our vacation. We rent a little house in a tiny settlement that one resident described as virtually unchanged since he was born there, forty years ago. Small houses are scattered along the one road that runs the length of the island and you’re more likely to see goats in the front yard than people. When you do see the locals, you have to be prepared for a visit – no one passes by without catching up on the...

What to do in The Bahamas: Eco Tour

When guests ask us what to do in The Bahamas we often speak of a visit to Long Island and Stella Maris Resort as a visit to the ‘original’ Bahamas. A step back in time to simpler days, without all the hustle and bustle that permeates modern life. A place to put body and soul back together again. We gently guide our guests down the path from the excitement of arrival to seemingly unattainable ‘zone’ of ‘Island Time’ as we respond to their queries of ‘what to to in The Bahamas’. A boat trip to visit Sandy Cay is new to our lineup of what to do in The Bahamas. This lovely spot is just off Little Exuma, a pleasant boat ride from the Stella Maris Marina. Your captain, Robert, is happy to share local lore. Guests may make arrangement for the Eco Tour in advance, or let us know when here and we can schedule based on availability and weather conditions. Charter rate is $400 on a 16′...
